FITNESS & PLAY

The first piece of equipment is the floor.

A training floor absorbs dropped weights, running decks and studded footwear — while holding the acoustics of the rooms below it. Yorkshore works with architecture and design teams across Florida and New England on gyms, studios, gymnasiums and play areas, with one dedicated account executive from first sample to final walkthrough.

01 — THE BRIEF
01

Impact, absorbed

Dropped bars, box jumps and running decks put strike loads into the slab. Rubber wear layers are specified by impact rating first and color second.

02

Quiet through the slab

A gym rarely sits alone in a building. Acoustic underlay and rubber mass keep the thud of a deadlift from reading as noise in the rooms below.

03

Safety underfoot

Slip resistance in wet areas, certified fall heights in play zones. Much of a fitness specification is written by the safety standard, not the palette.

04

One room, many programs

A gymnasium hosts assembly on Friday and a tournament on Saturday. Multi-use surfaces carry game lines, chairs and bleachers on the same finish.

02 — SPACE BY SPACE

Every discipline asks something different of the floor.

01 — STRENGTH & FREE WEIGHTS

Racks, platforms and free-weight zones set the heaviest duty on the plan. Recycled rubber tile takes the strike, protects the structure and keeps its face.

Design tip — A darker fleck under the racks hides chalk and rubber scuff between cleans; save the light tones for circulation.

Most specified: Stride Fitness · High Impact

02 — STUDIOS & GROUP FITNESS

Rooms that work barefoot.

Yoga, barre and group classes meet the floor skin-to-surface. Cushioned sport mat and smooth-faced rubber give a warm, clean surface that works barefoot and holds its grip under sweat.

Most specified: Sport Mat · Gymfit

Cardio floor under machines
03 — CARDIO & MACHINES

Treadmills, trainers and rowers concentrate serious weight into small footprints. Rubber tile spreads the point load and damps the drum of a running deck.

04 — GYMNASIUM & COURTS

Assemblies, game lines and bleacher traffic share one surface. Court systems are specified for ball response and footfall — then judged for years on how the finish holds its line.

Most specified: Sport Mat · High Impact

Locker room rubber flooring
05 — LOCKER & TEAM ROOMS

Skates, cleats and studded footwear are a wear condition most floors never meet. Rubber tile shrugs off the blades and keeps its traction when the room runs wet.

Most specified: Sport Mat · Stride Fitness

06 — PLAY AREAS, INSIDE & OUT

Fall height is a specification.

Playgrounds and indoor play zones carry a safety rating before a color choice. Impact-attenuating tile is specified to the fall height of the equipment above it — the finish is only the part you see.

From the Training Floor
In a training space, the floor is safety equipment first and a finish second.

04 — HOW A PROJECT RUNS
01

Consultation

It starts in your design library or on site — your dedicated account executive walks the space with your team, subfloor to ceiling grid, and puts live finishes in front of you, so what you get is an exact specification rather than a catalog.

02

Sampling

Full-size samples in the actual colorways, with acoustic data, wear ratings and documentation formatted for your spec sections.

03

Installation planning

Working with your preferred commercial flooring contractors, the sequence is planned around the training calendar — room by room, in off-peak and overnight windows — so the facility never has to go dark.

04

Post-install walkthrough

Post-install the floor is walked, signed off and warranted, and maintenance recommendations are issued in writing. We meet with your facilities and EVS teams so the floor is cleaned the way the warranty expects — same contact from first meeting to final punch list.
