Stairs are where a flooring specification earns its keep. American Biltrite treads mold tread, nose and riser into a single piece — no seam on the nosing, no loose edge to lift — in ABMarathon and ABDefender rubber compounds, with round or hammered surfaces and carborundum inserts where traction or visibility is part of the brief.

01 — Colors & Formats
A palette for both compounds.
ABMarathon and ABDefender each carry their own colorway range — slates, grays and saturated blues — with matching tiles in 18″ × 18″ and 36″ × 36″ nominal sizes for landings, so the color decision carries through the whole stairwell.

02 — One-Piece Construction
Tread, nose and riser. One mold.
The wear on a stair concentrates at the nosing — exactly where most assemblies put a seam. These treads are molded as a single section from the front edge down the riser, so the detail that takes the most punishment has no joint in it. Surfaces come in two designs, round and hammered.
The raised disc is molded through the tread — traction that lives in the profile, not in a coating.

03 — Compounds & Color
Two compounds, one detail.
ABMarathon is the stocked workhorse, carried on the quick-ship program in round and hammered surfaces. ABDefender is the fire-retardant compound, specified for the emergency exit stairways of high-rise buildings where low smoke development is part of the code case. Both are complemented by matching landing tile and risers, so the stair and its landings read as one continuous surface.

Traction the eye can find.
Carborundum strips set into the tread add grip and act as visual aids, marking the line of each step for the people who need it most. Set in black, red or yellow, they turn the nosing into both the safest and the most legible detail on the stair.
