The challenge

Winnie Palmer Hospital, part of Arnold Palmer Medical Center, is a 285-bed hospital for women and children whose labor and delivery unit welcomes 12,000 to 15,000 babies a year. The brief called for resilient floors that stand up to round-the-clock traffic, with no-wax maintenance and a sanitation requirement that never relaxes.

Why these products were selected

Three resilient systems were selected. Texas Granite solid vinyl tile in 12-inch units (8,730 sq ft) for the clinical zones, chosen for simple, low-cost, no-wax maintenance, ease of repair and a body with no mixed fillers to hold stains or scratches. ABPure PVC- and chlorine-free resilient sheet (23,500 sq ft) with a fast installation cycle to minimize downtime in a hospital that never closes. Mirra Wood (42,876 sq ft) for the heavy-traffic corridors and hallways, giving warmth in the public routes without hardwood's maintenance. Base details were flash coved and seams heat welded.
